Cable Plans, Deviations and Disconnections

Our mission is to ensure safe systems of work are in place to protect the public and operatives and to reduce damage to utility plant. We want to ensure that all parties are aware of utility issues within their specialist area and help companies achieve a safe workforce. In doing this we will:

  • Reduce injuries
  • Reduce customer interruptions
  • Reduce legal and environmental issues
  • Reduce repairs to our respective Networks
  • Keep the integrity of our Networks intact
  • Keep programmed works on target
  • Reduce the volume of repair bills

These benefits, and many more, are achieved through strict adherence to HSG47 guidelines, Avoiding Danger around Underground Services'.

Requesting Plans

To request a copy of our cable plans, you can contact us.

Please remember houses, offices, shops, factories and street lighting all have electric cables supplying them. Not all cables are shown on plans, look for an indication of potential services and mark their position.

Cable Deviations

To ensure timely completion, requests for cable diversions should be made in writing at the planning stage.

When requesting a cable diversion you must provide the following information:

  • Name of company requesting deviation (if appropriate)
  • Contact name
  • Contact phone number, fax number and email
  • Site address
  • Site plan with marked route

Electrical Supply Disconnections

This guide has been produced due to the volume and nature of dangerous incidents concerning supply cable disconnections.

Treat all cables exposed on a site as LIVE.

  • Step 1
Apply to Electricity Supplier (this may not be ScottishPower). To find out who your supplier is contact MPAS on 0845 270 9101. If your supplier is ScottishPower, click here.
  • Step 2
The supplier will contact you, with an appointment date to remove the Metering equipment only. (This is NOT an appointment to remove the incoming supply cables.)
  • Step 3
The Supplier will then contact us direct to request disconnection of the incoming supply cable. (This is done electronically and is known as the D0132 'Flow'.)
  • Step 4
If we do not receive the 'Flow' we cannot remove the supply.
  • Step 5
We will then make an appointment to remove the supply. Access to the metering point MUST be given, for safety testing. The process from receiving the 'flow' to the actual cable disconnection is dictated by our current workload. But is normally completed in 10 working days.
  • Step 6
After the physical disconnection of the cable we will send out a letter confirming the supply has been disconnected.
  • Please remember, not following this procedure will not only delay your works, but may also result in a member of your staff or a member of the public being injured or killed.
